LED Light Therapy
An effective adjunct to traditional acne therapies
A nice complement to your acne regimen, LED light therapy is an easy, no-downtime way to help treat acne by bringing down the levels of P. acnes in the skin. P. acnes is not bacteria that spreads from one person to another—it’s actually part of our normal skin flora and contributes to the inflammation associated with acne lesions. LED light therapy utilizes blue light (415nm) to target the bacteria, minimizing current breakouts and preventing the development of new lesions.
LED light therapy is safe for all skin types, and as a bonus, improves the brightness and tone of the skin. It’s FDA-approved for acne—safe and effective for all skin types, even during summer months—and is a great option for chest and back acne. It’s non-invasive and pain-free, so there are no side effects and no downtime. Since LED therapy is so easy, cost effective, and quick—each session is about 20 minutes—it’s a ideal choice for teens and college patients.
Please note that LED light therapy is not ideal to use alone. We would like all of our acne patients to be on a home skin care routine with topical and sometimes oral agents, so we recommend a visit with one of our providers first.
